Asset management and project management

Hi Friends,

In Asset management module, do we have an option that we can link the work order (Cost) to the respective Project for which i performed the maintenance. For Example, in my Project module I am running 10 projects, and say for Project ABC I performed a maintenance job (Work order posted) so the cost will capture in the Project ABC not in a common project as sub-project (As for each work order one sub-project is created).

Please advise.

Thanks,
Imran Ul Haq

    Hi,

Based on the information you provided, we found an official document.
This document is about work order project group setup to associate work orders with projects.
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/supply-chain/asset-management/setup-for-work-orders/work-order-project-setup

If the above answers do not solve your issue, it is recommended that you post your question in the forum of the Dynamics application you are using, where experts in the field will be able to provide a more specialized solution.

    Best Regards,
    Dengliang Li

Which D365 app are you using? This forum is about D365 in general, while your question must be about a particular product. Is it F&O?

    Hi Martin/Dengliang,

    Thanks for your reply.

    I am using D365 F&O application.

I meant in my query is that currently system provide the posting to a specific Project only, not work order as per the project, means as per my example in the query, I have 10 Projects in the Project Management module, and I want to create the work order within the project so that i will capture the cost in that project not some other common project.

I've worked with similar asset management systems, and it's crucial to link work orders to specific projects for accurate cost tracking. It helps in project budgeting and analysis. If your system doesn't have this feature, consider discussing it with your software provider or exploring other options, like IT Asset Management Software hope that helps!

Sounds like you're dealing with a tricky issue. I've had success handling this by making sure security roles and permissions are correctly set up in Dynamics 365. Sometimes specific entities need additional security adjustments beyond the main user roles. If you're managing digital content, checking how security interacts with the media asset management workflow can also help, since restrictions there might block certain actions. Double-check those permissions and see if that fixes the issue.
