What is my job called?

Posted on by

Hi All,

I'm a user who got brought into the project room when the business i worked for was deciding to upgrade to Dynamics CRM 365. By accident, i just understood the program, it was similar to some game modding programs i had used in the past. I am completely self taught via trial and error on the test environment, YouTube, blogs, and these forums.

Any time the business gave the agency a task, we would get quotes for 40+ hours or some such. From what i - a novice - understood i didn't see how it would take that long, and i was just trying to save the company money/hours. To make sure the company wasn't getting ripped off, and so i understood what the agency was going on about,  i would spend the night to teach myself about the section of the CRM discussed, and 'usually' get the task or issue created or fixed the next morning. Instead of waiting for the agency to do it.

In the end, they just got rid of the agency for CRM and offered me the role of in house consultant as i had closed of 38 of the 45 tasks on register and saved them a heap of cash. Because i'm self taught, i don't use the correct terminology for many things, however given the list below, what is my actual role's title? What should i call myself so other people know what i do for a living? I've pretty much only learnt about an area when the company says something they want some new feature or facility, and i just go: I have no idea how to do that, but give me a couple of days and i will.

Currently I:

  • Design/customize and implement the forms/views/dashboards for all the entities based on the companies ongoing needs
  • Create and manage teams/business units
  • Create and manage  security profiles and access to forms/entities via those profiles
  • create the business rules/processes/workflows for the various forms based on business needs
  • Create auto fill rules tied to process stages
  • create custom reports based on evolving business needs
  • Create and manage the CRM app for mobile devices to provide an offline mode
  • integrate with Teams and Outlook
  • Integrate with 3rd party apps (e.g mapping program)
  • Remotely troubleshoot with staff across the country
  • Ongoing work with multiple sites nationally to customize the user experience for their staff based on the daily tasks of those users and what they need based on evolving roles.
  • Create XML templates for their invoices letters etc..
  • deal with the companies data uploads (e.g purchased data, new price lists, etc..)
  • Be the key CRM 'expert' in the upcoming talks with a new agency for 365 Operations project

I don't know any code, and i'm sure there is plenty else  i do that i have not mentioned. Do i just do a mixed bag of various bits of various roles, or is there an actual appropriate title for someone who does this stuff? I fell into this role by accident, I'm not certified in anything, when people ask me what i do, what do i say?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
