'Send E-mail' does not work

Hello,

I have the problem with 'Send E-mail'.

My environment: CRM4 on Windows 2008 Server (I have SMTP Server role added, because I assumed it's required for sending emails).

I click 'Send E-mail' - fill it out and click 'Send' - email appears in 'History' section, but never gets delivered.

I know that SMTP Server works properly, because I can 'telnet' to port 25 and send email using SMTP commands: it gets delivered properly.

Does anyone have any thoughts about cause of the issue?  Am I missing something simple on CRM site?

Thank you in advance,

Victor

    have you configured E-mail router.

    Thank you for the reply!

Actually - no, I did not configure E-mail router.  Maybe this is something I should look at.

Here is why I have not had E-mail router configured: I have working CRM3 production environment and in CRM3 days E-mail Router was not needed for E-mail functionality (CRM3 Server used Default SMTP Server Service local to it to process emails) - it was just needed for email integration with Exchange (inbound email processing to CRM, etc).

Does E-mail router function change in CRM4?  Do I need E-mail router for simple email processing that being sent from CRM Browser client (IE)?

    Thank you,

    Victor

On v4, if you're just sending emails out of CRM and don't need to worry about any complex forwarding associated with the Email Router, I would just set-up/configure the Outlook Client and process emails through that.  I've been using this set-up internally, at clients' for their email needs, and for related workflow notifications without issue.

The Outlook integration is nice since staff have immediate access to Outlook and CRM functionality in one area and don't have to go back and forth between seperate email and CRM apps.

One thing to remember when using the Outlook Client, is that emails sent from Crm will not be sent unless Outlook is running for the sending users.  When Outlook is not running, emails sent from Crm will not be sent until the next time Outlook is opened.

     Hope this Helps,

Yes - Thank you all for replies.

I guess we force to have E-mail Router setup and configured - which was not required in CRM3 - looks like indeed MS changed the way emails are being processed in CRM4, made configuration more complicated.  I don't like this architectural decision, but I guess not much I can do.

    Thanks again,

    Victor
