Create test data from production GP data

Posted on by 175

Hi - I am working with a PSA vendor who integrates with our GP. They have trouble integrating and want to get an backup of our database so they can troubleshoot the problem by configuring their instance like ours. I do not want to give them a backup of our production database for privacy reasons. I just want to give them some test data and our GP  configuration. Is there a tool that can anonymise our production database?

I do have a test environment of GP but it has production data as well. If there is a utility that can convert  my test environment a  test data instead of real production data, that would be great.

Any idea to achive this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Rekha

Thanks Ian - I was able to install PSTL but as Jonathan mentioned Copy functionality is not in the tool. so I installed Copy Company from the link Jonathan gave. Thanks Jonathan.

I ran the utility to see what functionality it provides but it looks like it just copes data and reports. It didn't have option to copy just the setup. I 'll give a try and see what happens.

    Thanks to you both..

    Rekha

You are using GP 10 so the copy company utility is not available. You can download it from the following link though:

    Hi Rekha,

When you installed the PSTL - the enter PSTL registration code window should have opened...and it should have been pre-filled with a registration key. PSTL is free to use with GP10 and 2010...and the install comes with a default reg code. The reg keys for PSTL are not available on Customersource - they come preloaded in the software install.

Where did you get the install files for PSTL from?

The correct install is available on customersource (I believe). If you are having difficulty finding it, contact your partner and they should be able to get it for you. Or PM me and I can see about getting a copy across to you.

When you insall it - launch each company in turn so that the install can complete for eah company. This is important as it can cause issues for users if you don't.

Also for installing, you need to be logged in as 'sa'.

There is documentation on installing on the GP 10 and GP 2010 media.

    Ian.

Thanks for the direction Ian. But I had no success.

I installed PSTL and  have two issues.

    1. It asks for "Utilitiy Registration Code" I don't know where to find that.  I went to customer source to check the license key and tried all of them :) but none of the keys worked.  Any idea where I can find the utility registration code?

    2. Without registering, system took me to the next page but but there is no option to copy company (see the attached screen shot). If I am not wrong it is supposed to be under Misc tools.. I am assuming because my registration was not sucessful, I do not see the option??

I am on GP 10 and trying it in my test environment.

You could use the Copy Company utility in Professional Services Tools Library. This will create an exact copy of your production company - without any transactional data.

Then manually enter some transactions in the area where they need to test.

    Ian.

It won't take our config - we are using multicurrency and created many custom rate types - the troubleshooting is required on rate type issues we are haibf with the integartion.

If there was a way to mass delete the data, just keeping the config data only might work as well but not sure how to do that..

Why not just send them a copy of the Fabrikam database. Depending on what they need to see that may be sufficient. If need be, perhaps you could add GL accounts, vendors, customers and items to Fabrikam to match what you have in production.
