Excel File Cannot be Uploaded

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello,

I work for a company that sells items online. I need to upload any promotion that we want to make and the file needs to be xlsx or xls. First I need to export the type of file and just need to add the promotion prices. I cannot change much in this file except deleting any rows that contains items that will not take part of a promotion.

The issue is when uploading the file. I get a message that tells me "The file type is not recognized". In other words, the site see my file of other format.

I did save it in both xlsx and xls and it did not worked.

The most strange thing is that my file can be uploaded from any other PC or MAC that we have except mine.

My PC is new and I did not have any issue like this with my old one.

If anyone has any idea how to fix this it will be verry verry helpful.

Best regards,

Mihai C.

I am sorry but nothing is working...even files that were uploaded last year, get same error now. This is weird and stupid...this error is ugly.

I just saved an excel file in any format and nothing works...all files get a big red "X" and the upload button gets blocked.

Thank you for your time, but I guess my error its just godlike.

    Best regards Goutam

RE: Excel File Cannot be Uploaded

    Hi,

Back when I had my old PC I was able to upload any xlsx or xls file even if it was the wrong one and I would get an error message.

In my case the button for upload gets blocked because the file type is not xlsx or xls.

So how can excel save a file in a different format other then xlsx/ xls despite the fact that I selected the right type?

But then again the same file saved on my PC ...used on other computer will work with no problem.

At this moment I dont know what can cause this issue.

Maybe it is not an Excel problem....but if Excel is not the problem...what is...

Maybe you know more info and maybe point me in a dirrection so I can search an answer...because  so far nothing makes sense.

So again no matter what the file contains, as long as it is xlsx or xls I should be able to upload it. Instead the upload button gets blocked and I get a message saying that the file type is not the right one.

Its like my file is csv or other type but this is not the case.

Thank you again for your time,

    Regards

    Hi Mihai ,

I would suggest to try once download new template and see the result . There might be the data issue as well, so you can direct export few  data from the same entity and  import the same excel file again see its working or not .

If anyone needs more details, I would like to share this file...and maybe the problem is regarding of the file vs some excel settings.

    My email is arkd3um1988@gmail.com

Please send me a hello so I can share you this file...maybe you can help me out. Maybe you can find the cause to this weird situation.

    I also want to mention:

    1. If i have to udate our stocks on this site, I have to export a file as well, but this time the upload is working all the time with no problem.

    2. If I try to just export and save this problematic file on my pc...and make no changes...not even opening it....I still get same error when i try to upload it.

    Hi,

As I mentioned the file is ok, it is not corrupted because the same file used by other PC workes perfectly. I emailed the same file to 2 different PC and I was able to upload the file with no problem.

And also, as mentioned above, one was a Windows PC and the other a MAC and it worked.

Since I got this new PC the upload is not working.

At first I thought that the browser was the problem but I already tryed on Mozilla,Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

So I am back to no idea what is causing the problem.

The site I am trying to upload the file is not owned by my company, so i dont have any feedback regarding the error.

So what can make excel save the file the wrong way.

I still think it has something to do with excel itself...maybe some option that should be turned on and its not...I dont know...I wish i knew :(

    Thank you in adavance,

    Best regards

    Hi Mihai,

Seems import file has corrupted . I would suggest download the Excel Template from Settings > Data management >Template For Data Import -> Download the template for the entity , fill the template . Make sure dont change the format of the file .
