Using editable grid to create a new record

The editable grid is an awesome new feature to Dynamics but I am surprised it doesn't seem to offer an easy way to create a new record.  Am I missing something obvious?

I want to utilise the feature as a quick way for my team to add new tasks in the grid form.  Currently we are using SharePoint to do this, within the datasheet view.  A nice simple interface which is really easy to use to add new tasks quickly.

Can this be done in the editable grid in Dynamics?  If anyone has managed to achieve this with Javascript that could be an option as we have a developer on our team.

Thanks

Pete Hamilton

    Hi Pete,

The features that are provided by editable grids are sorting, grouping, filtering, inline editing, filtered lookups, business rules, javascript, auto save/manual save and few more. Editable grids functionality provides an easy way to modify record data without navigating to the record. So adding new record using editable grid as per the given features in https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt788312.aspx is not possible.

To know more about adding editable grids and its functionalities can visit: https://osmosee.wordpress.com/2016/11/24/dynamics-365-editable-grids-in-crm/

    Hope this is helpful.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Hi Pete,

The OOB editable grid is only for editing purpose and you cant do a create operation on it.

Also you cant do that with just JavaScript rather you need to build your custom editable grid as a web resource and then use that instead of using OOB editable grid - which will be too much of work.

You can try to use Editable Table Custom PCF control. It's adding a new row when you click on a + button.
