FRx Designer / Forecaster Company login failed

Hi Everyone,

This is going to be for the FRx Designer 6.7 and Forecaster 7 specialist... Our company has this reporting software installed now for years and it works like a Swiss-watch :-)... Recently we created a new company subsidiary in Great Plains and now Finance want to create reports against this new company in FRx Designer... On the SQL server side (2008R2) we have a new GP and a new Forecaster company that were created with the ad-hoc tools. Login into those companies are fine with their respective clients. On the FRx Designer side, I've created two new data definition for each Databases (one for GP and one for FC)... The FC definition is linked to the GP one in the System Specification Tab.  The Forecaster Databases are all using a single user-id to pull the data (reporter user) and this works like a charm for all other companies. However, when trying to lunch FRx Designer and connect to the newly created definitions, it passes well the GP company login, but fails to connect to the Forecaster database. SQL side wise, everything is OK on the security, the 'reporter' user was granted access and read permissions thru the Forecaster security role that is also in use for all other FC DB's.

The error message FRx Designer is throwing looks like this :

(Forecaster login failed, possibly due to incorrect login or password)

I ruled out the login/password issue by testing the connection within an Excel workbook and connecting to the same FC company DB with that same 'report'er user and I can pull the data from any of the tables inside of the DB... so not a login/pwd issue.

Does anyone have a suggestion ? I spent now a few hours on searching the internet and couldn't find much about this. It's not a SQL native client version issue, since all other companies are working fine...

One thing I wasn't able to validate is that the other companies have a 3rd entry in FRx Designer with a Forecaster Corp ID reference number, which I don't know from where it comes and is not linked in any way to the two other definitions... The user guide mentions something about ExpressLink Wizar, but fails to go into the technical details...

Thanks in advance for any tips.

I see no one is answering this...can you run a SQL Profiler Trace?

    Good Morning Tim,

Of course I can run an SQL trace... that was going to be my next option if no one could answer my question... :-). Do you have a hint on something particuliar I need to look for ?

Nothing special, except targeting the correct user and correct database;  every once in a while I "forget" to watch DYANMICS as well as the company database.  When I first read your post I wondered if someone perhaps entered a name or other identifier with a single quote in it.  That tends to "break" the dynamic SQL that is used in GP and other products.

    Hi Tim,

The problem is really that those new companies have nothing different then the other existing ones in term of company names (we use the same schema to name the companies in GP, i.e. FTxxx , the xxx representing the 1-3 letters for the country code or something like this).

I can't relly figure out what the missing piece is to link the FRx designer to the GP companies and Forecaster companies.

Re: FRx Designer / Forecaster Company login failed

    Update :

I opened a ticket with our MBS partner and they suggested a few couple of possible solutions, but none of them worked :

    - MS KB related to a G/L Calendar issue support.microsoft.com/.../963715... tested, didn't work

    - already ran a Std SQL trace while login into a healthy company and the non-working one, no operations are returned during the login process that affects the Forecaster company... Only the GP company transactions are flowing by.. Maybe the default SQL trace misses to capture some vital records ?

    - Grant DYNGRP access to the new GP company :  not related since GP login is fine... ran it anyway, but without more success.

    Any other suggestion is welcome.

    Have you tried KB963714? KB857729 ?

Re: FRx Designer / Forecaster Company login failed

    Hi Tim,

Yes both KB's are validated and didn't solved the issue... However, I came one step closer (at least for one of the two companies) by following the KB938573 :

Step 4: Enable the Forecaster database to be used with DirectLink  <- this was not checked in both FC companies

Step 6: Run the DirectLink installation scripts against the Forecaster database <- this was not ran against both new FC and GP companies..

After following this KB I was able to succesfully login into the one company that already has some sort of setup (G/L accounts, open periods, MC setup, budget in Forecaster (even empty) )... for the second company I suspect that the issue is by not having any data yet in the GP and Forecaster company...

For now I think this resolves the problem. I'll do a follow up soon as we have uploaded a budget in the FC company and completed a proper G/L & Multi-currency setup in the GP company.

Thanks Tim for your support and various tips :-)... helped to tackle the beast !
