MR suppress underscore in DESC column?

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by

Hello,

We are in the process of migrating from FRx to MR, and are noticing that underscore rows are now printing in the DESC column of our reports.  Is there a way to suppress this?  According to https://support.office.com/en-ca/article/Adding-a-column-restriction-in-Management-Reporter-9d0b2cfe-d02b-40ed-878a-75c29a3d530d there is a Column Restriction Code of "SU" that sounds like it would do the job, but when I double-click the Column Restrictions cell in the DESC column I get a message stating "This option is not available for the selected column type."

Thanks,

Joe

    Hi Joe,

Can you please share the screen shot off the row where you have problem.

I'd really rather not provide a screen shot.  Basically, it's every row that has a Format Code of "---" or "===".  The report prints those underscores for FD and CALC columns, as it should.

But it also underscores the descriptions that appear in the DESC column.  For example, the words "Net Income" are double underlined.  This did not happen in FRx, and I would like to prevent it from happening in MR.

The DESC column is in the middle of the page, with FD and CALC columns on either side, in case that matters.

    Thanks

We're in the same process to migrate from FrX to Management reporter and have the same issue.

So far, it only seems to happen when the "desc" column is in the middle. Works fine when "desc" is in column A. I'm still trying to find a more convenient solution...

Thanks for the feedback.  Your post gave me an idea.  Just as an experiment, I went in and added an "SU" in the Column Restrictions for the column (an FD column) immediately to the left of the DESC column.  That code is supposed to suppress underscoring for the column in question.  My hope was that perhaps the underscoring would then effectively be deactivated until the column after the DESC column.  A longshot, but you never know until you try.

To my surprise not only were there still underscores in the DESC column, but there were also still underscores in the FD column to which I had added the "SU" Column Restriction.  So is there a bug causing the "SU" code to not work?  Or am I not using it correctly?

    Thanks

I didn't think to use the "SU" format.

As for our original problem, I found a fix. It's a long fix, but it is still one.

In the row format, column H (Column Restriction), you can put all your column letters excluding the "desc" column. The only thing is you have to add those restriction to every underscore and double underscore rows. It worked fine for me.

    Hope it helped!

Thanks.  It seems a shame to have to go to that length for something that could be much simpler.  But I'll keep it in mind in case no easier solution materializes.

This worked for me!  Thanks for posting.

I too am having this same issue and was advised by our Microsoft Partner to include the column restrictions in the row format.  Unfortunately, we have multiple reports that use the same row format and now I would need to create about 10 different row formats each with differing supresssions for where the Desc column is.  Or, I can move the description column to the far left, that does work as well.  We have used FRX for over 10 years and have been on MR now for about 3 years....never had this problem until CU10.

We have decided to revise all reports to have the Desc column on the far left, although it is much more reader friendly when it is in the middle.  Hoping this will be corrected in coming updates.

    Suzanne,

It turns out that this problem is fixed in CU13, which was just released at the end of July.  However I might wait until CU14 if I were you.  We updated to CU13 and are having a lot of trouble with reports running very slowly.  The problem has been escalated to Microsoft, but no solution yet.  :(

Thanks Joe....appreciate you sharing your experience.  I think we'll wait for CU14.
