General Journal: 'comment' field...never seen again?

There's the 'comment' field on entering General Journal entries and I can't find it anywhere.

Please tell me the table/field ID

Trying to figure out how I can use this.

That Comment field you see in the General Journal page in your screenshot (Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central) is not part of the main Gen. Journal Line table directly, which is why you don’t see it in the table fields list or extension tables right away.

Underlying table details:

Table Name: Gen. Journal Line
Table ID: 81
Field Name (linked): Comment is not a direct field — it’s a linked feature through the Comment Line table.
Related Table: Comment Line
Related Table ID: 97
Relation Field:
Table Name = 'Gen. Journal Line'
No. = Document No. from the journal line

Hi,

The table id for "Gen. Journal Line" is 81. And field id for Comment is 5618.

Comment Field is as below Table - 81 , Field Id - 5618

You can always get to know field present inside table from Front-end if you have sufficient Rights

Go to Help & Support -> Inspect Pages And Data

You can search for Table Fields, Extensions

Hi,

The Comment field you see in the General Journal page is not stored in the General Journal Line table itself. It’s a temporary UI field used for adding notes before posting.
Once you post the journal, that comment is not carried forward to the ledger entries. If you want to keep it, you need to use the Comment Lines feature (linked to the journal batch) or customize the posting routine.

So, after posting, you won’t find that comment anywhere unless you implement a customization to store it.
