Create CRM Test Environment

Hi,

My company is currently LIVE with CRM for one department in the organisation and I have to roll out to 3 other departments however their requirements are a little different to the first department. So I would like to build a TEST environment to do testing and User Acceptance testing etc.

Is this possible? If yes how do I go about it? Is it worth it?

    Hi Tricia,

Yep - it is possible and highly recommended.  To build a test environment, install the crm in the new environment.  Then backup and restore your production database to your test sql server.  You can then use the crm deployment manager to import the organization.  All customizations, plugins, reports, data are stored in the database.

What would you recommend for a customer with a Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online?

     Thanks in Advance.

    Hi Patrick,

One option is to have a second organization with the minimum of 5 uses and use it only for testing.

Yes, that is an option.  - I'd like to be able to migrate over the data as well, so that might be problematic.

What would you suggest in that case?

    Hi Patrick,

Crm online offer the ability to get a backup of the database if moving on prem.  Perhaps they could create a copy of your organization to then be used as test -- copying all data and customizations.  I'd ping their support folks.

I've pinged their billing team with this quesiton and apparently they have never done such thing. They promissed to provide a backup next week. At that point no one knows how to import that into CRM Live instance ...
