What does "s" mean next to an item on BOM

When I run a BOM for a component item such as bulk or wip I get an "s" next to the item number on the assembly posting journel.  Then when I run a BOM for a FG item that contains that bulk or wip I get an "s" next to the finished goods item and the bulk/wip item.

Can someone explain this to me?  We do not do subassemblies when we run a BOM.  However as I understand it the "s" means a subassembly was run.
