SQL 2005 - MS Dynamics GP 2010 Installation Issues

Hello

I am installing MS Dynamics GP 2010 for the first time.  The server that I am installing Dynamics on is already running SQL 2005 and it is our intention to use this server to hold our Dynamics instance.  I followed the steps outlined in the installation guide to install the MS Dynamics product, including the part where you setup the ODBC data source.

After the installation finished, I continued with the setup by launching GP Utilities but could never connect to the server.  I looked in SQL and found that there was no database or instance created.  My question is, did I miss a step?  Do I need to create the SQL instance prior to installing MS Dynamics GP 2010?

We had issues with this one also - try using SQL Server Native Client rather than SQL Server when creating the ODBC.

    Hi,

Please find the link to system requirements for your guidance.

    https://mbs.microsoft.com/customersource/documentation/systemrequirements/mdgp2010_system_requirements.htm?printpage=false

I would recommend the following when initializing Microsoft Dynamics GP 10/2010 databases:

    1. Install Microsoft Dynamics GP client on the server.  This will eliminate troubleshooting network problems between SQL server and the client computer (which can be resolve in another exercise).
    2. Please ensure the correct odbc manager is being used i.e. %windir%\system32\odbcad32.exe for 32-bit application.  The odbc manager %windir%\SysWow64\odbcad32.exe for 64-bit machine is still not supported.
    3. Turnoff User Access Control in windows.
    4. Please ensure you are using (US-English) for Regional Setiings in any computer.

There could be other factors affecting your db initialisation but the most common causes are due to variations on the items stated above.

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers,

    Dencio
