Hello,

Does the shortage list from the production orders account for component demand that is used on multiple items?

For example, component item no. 1000 has an on-hand quantity of 10.
Prod order no. 15 for 100pcs with due date 6/1.

Prod order no. 20 for 200pcs with due date 6/5.

Will the shortage list account for 300pcs demand on both the production orders to show the quantity needed to be 90pcs on prod order no. 15 and then, 200pcs quantity need on prod order no. 20?

Can the shortage list show the purchase order receipt dates if there is a qty on PO for that component?

Yes and No. The shortage report will show the total demand at the date of the Production Order it is being run for. The "Needed Quantity" will be a total of ALL component demand UP TO the due date of the Production Order's component's date. In your example, the "Needed Quantity" on the report for the first Prod. Order would be 90 pcs. (100 - 10). The "Needed Quantity" on the report for the second Prod. Order would be 290 pcs (100 + 200 - 10).

Likewise, the receipt quantity will be the total receipts PRIOR to the date of the component. It doesn't show you a list, just the total quantity expected to be received prior to the need date.

P.S. The shortage list is for manual planning purposes. The Planning Worksheet is for automatic planning. It factors in lead times, supply, demand, and gives suggestions based on the timing of everything. I would encourage you to look into the Planning Worksheet capabilities in your Sandbox environment.

Maybe this will help clarify.

Yes, the shortage list in Business Central does consider total demand across multiple production orders. So in your example, it will:

See that item 1000 is used in both Prod. Order 15 and 20.

Allocate the available on-hand quantity (10) to the earliest due date (Prod. Order 15).

Show 90 pcs shortage for Order 15 and 200 pcs for Order 20.

About PO Receipt Dates:

The standard shortage list doesn't show purchase order receipt dates, but you can:

Use the Availability by BOM Level or Item Availability by Event page to see incoming supply (including PO dates).

Or customize the shortage list report/page to include expected receipt dates from open purchase lines.
