Searching for contact details vs searching for leads details

Hi All,

If I were to receive a business card from 'Mr Jo Bloggs' and add this as a 'Lead'

When I come to search for Mr Bloggs details, would I need to search from within 'Leads' or can I get it to appear even though it is a contact?

I understand that when you create a Lead that it does not create an account or contact until you have qualified the details but I am wondering if this means that I would need to search for Mr Bloggs under 'Leads' and 'Contacts' as I may have forgotten where I added them.

Any one know if it is possible to search in one box across both 'Leads' and 'Contacts' and why this might not be good practice?

Thank you!

You should upgrade to CRM 2015 and use global search my friend. Anyway you can have your own custom search page developed in silverlight/html or in .net or can utilize custom addon for the global search.

    Hi Wayne,

If you search using the main nav (top) search it will search across contacts and leads.  If you see multiple entity results you can filter to limit to just contacts or leads or other entities if they apply.

    Hi Tom,

Thanks for reply, on mine it only shows details of people in Accounts and Contacts when I use this search bar.  If I click on Leads and perform the same search it does find the person I am looking for.

Are you using CRM 2013 and might your search criteria being changed to also look up against Leads?

    Wayne,

Got it. I am using 2015.  There is a setting under Settings / Administration / System Settings.  It allows selecting which entities Quick Search operates on.  Perhaps 2013 has the same, but not sure.  The field is "Select entities for search".

    Best Regards,

In CRM 2013 this feature was only released for tablet clients only not other clients, that's why I have suggested for using custom addons or develop custom search page or better to upgrade to CRM 2015.

    Hi Mahen,

What sort of work is required to get something written that works like a global search?

Are there any companies that provide this free.  It would appear that it is relatively easy to write given the correct skills.

Surely it would be cheaper to get something written then to go through an upgrade process to 2015?

    Thanks

    Hi,

I have not seen any free utility for global search, but developer can write this tool using ASP.net or html/javascript/jquery.

Upgrading to 2015 is not just matter of this single feature, you will get number of other new features as well  :)

Clearbit is the one-stop for email solution and all your sales prospecting concerns. For starters, it helps you acquire the email addresses of your prospects along with other important contact details and lead management. It integrates with your Gmail account to find your prospects’ email addresses with easy and quick steps.

All you have to do is to type in the first name of your prospect along with their company name. Once you enter this information, you will immediately find the email address.

That said, it is more than that.

It further analyzes the needs of your customers, identifies more suitable prospects, and helps you nurture them by engaging them and interacting with them.
