Can I make a field record the date when a specific field was changed to a value?

I want to create a field which will record the date when the value of a different = "Closed"

This field is in an option set with other values such as "Open", "In Progress" etc... Is there a way I can make it record the date when it's been marked as "Closed" ?

Hi,

You can do it with custom plug-in development.

Create a plugin for your entity and register it on "UPDATE" message "pre-operation" and check your optionset value in your plugin by "Target".

If it is in "Target" and equals (or not) your value, add your date field in your target with your value. If everything is OK, your record updated on database.

Could a workflow accomplish this? I've never created a workflow that records the date an action took place so not sure?

Hi,

It depends on whether you are talking about a status field or not. Some records, once closed, won't allow any further updates to happen on the fields.

If it's not your situation, you can try this:

- create a date field

- register a workflow to trigger on the update if your optionset

- in the workflow, check if required value has been selected into the options field

- and, if yes, set that date field to the modifiedon of the same record

Hi CRM Leaners

I would create a new field called "Marked as Closed"

Have a workflow that runs on change of that field and uses the process date and time of the workflow

This would achieve your requirement

Thanks for the responses. I am trying this now but I'm a little stuck. The field is not a status field, just a regular drop down with options manually created.

1.) I created the date field.

2.) I created a workflow that starts when "Record fields change" and I selected the 'Status' field which has Closed as an option.

3.) I put a Check for Condition clause in there saying when Status = Dead

4.) I put a then clause to update the "Marked as Dead" but I can't figure out how to make it input the date this changes?

When I click Set Properties and I select the date field I don't see where the option would be to set it to the date that the Status changed?

Thank you, I just made this update however for whatever reason the workflow doesn't seem to be firing off? I activated the workflow and published... I changed these field on a few records we have saved but the field just stays blank and doesn't update at all... Any ideas?
