Disable Lookup field hyperlink when clicked on the blank part.

Hello,

I'm trying to disable the hyperlink on a Lookup field in cases where the user clicked on the blank spots (I.E: NOT the letters/name/actual link of the value).

Needless to say I'd like to keep the hyperlink active when clicked on the lookup value's name (I.E: letters.).

I'm guessing this is a bug, be that as it may, when I click on the gray spot it automatically acts as a hyperlink to the record in this picture.

I don't know how this field is populated but if you make this field is ready only, then clicking on the letters is the only way the record will open

The field is not auto-populated, if that's what you're asking.

It's populated by system-user. hence, I need the users to be able to click on the lookup field's gray area (as you can see in the pic above) without invoking the hyperlink.

Currently, whenever a system-user tries to click on the lookup field's gray area (in order to choose another value), the hyperlink is activated and they're automatically taken to the value's form, instead of the required functionality in which the hyperlink is activated only when clicked on the lookup field's value.

Hope I was able to explain myself :)

if the user wants to choose another value they should press the magnifying glass icon.

Our client specifically asked for the functionality I described above, but I guess this is as valid an answer as any.

    Thanks !
