how to restrict sales order from being view/edit when it is open with some other user

Hi everyone,

We are having an issue in business central.

when a sales order is open with one user and another user comes somewhere and opens that as well and do some operation or post the sales order. The specific record locks for almost 8+ hours. The error displays is as below.

The operation could not complete because a record in the Sales Header table was locked by another user. Please retry the activity.

So my question is when a record is open with someone is it possible to restrict other users to view or edit, unless the other user closes it.

Regards.

I have the same question (0)

I think you need to set relevant permissions.

Not sure if it is possible to do that. Permission won't help you as well.

You may need to figure out why the record lock is so long ( extension, etc. )

I don't see anything in extension that can make the issue. This happens when a same SO is open with two users, When both are doing some operation on it, when one post or releases the SO then it locks down. One solution i got from searching is to kick off the sessions so that BC will release the locked record like here robertostefanettinavblog.com/.../ but i want a kind of solution where is can restrict a user while opening the record if it is open with someone else like it happens in SAP.

the locking mechanism is normal. what does not make sense is the long hours. it will release the lock after you finish posting.

You may also want to review the business process and figure out why two users access the same order.

    Hi

Can you check if you have added any custom on Sales Order Page or Sales Header Table?

Yes, the issue was some where in the custom code, that was locking some of the related tables, that's why it was locking the sales order.
