Assembly transaction (Inventory) - what is the use?

I was wondering if someone could explain me the purpose of this assembly transaction in Inventory module. I understand that you can create an assembled transaction from a bill of material but then what? Can I consume the assembled components, if so how in GP? If it is a finished good how would that be converted into $?

    Hi,

The assembly transaction consumes the components to build a new Inventory item. You can sell that new inventory item, or even use it in an assembly to create a different inventory item. Once the assembly transaction is posted, you cannot take it back apart into it's component parts. You could think of it as a finished good that you can use in another assembly or sell as is.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

    Hi Leslie,

Thanks for the reply. As always, you are the best.

I am not able to sell the Assembled Items or even consume it. On the Assembly Entry window I am able to enter the transaction, post it and that's all. Where to sell (in SOP) and how to select the Assembled Items in any other windows, can you please provide me a screen shot for it?

    Hi,

Once you have posted the assembly transaction, it becomes inventory. Your Bill Number is your item number. When you post the assembly, be sure to print the posting journal and you should see the results of the post. After you post the assembly, go to Item Transaction Inquiry and you should see the Assembly listed. There's really no screenshot, because the assembly is just a regular inventory item.
