Dynamics CRM 365 Missing + button from sub-grids within Quick form Views.

Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum but have recently begun working on updating a company from Dynamics CRM 2015 (on-premise) to Dynamics CRM 365 (on-premise version: 8.2) and have run into an issue that I would like some opinions on if possible.

On the incident or case form, we have several account Quick View Forms that contain sub-grids to other entities that have a one-to-many relationship with the account.

I've noticed that after updating one of our environments from 2015 to 365, the + button is missing from all sub-grids that are displayed within Quick View Forms.

Here is another post that describes and illustrates the exact same issue that I'm having: https://community.dynamics.com/crm/b/debajitcrm/archive/2016/04/21/add-new-button-not-visible-in-sub-grid-in-quick-form-view-in-dynamics-crm-2016-bug-or-expected-behavior

This post is great in describing the problem; however, it unfortunately does not fully confirm any workaround or give any source that it is indeed a bug.

My question is, would anyone happen to have a workaround or confirm on if this is a known issue or bug in Dynamics CRM 365?

Unfortunately, I do not have access to a fresh or brand new CRM 365 environment that I can use to test this right out of the box to see if that makes any difference.

As a potential workaround, I created buttons on the ribbon bar using the Ribbon Workbench which launch the same entities the + buttons on the sub-grids would normally launch, and after passing parameters to them, I can get them to function the same way. The only downside is, creating these entities this way, it does not refresh the sub-grid on these Quick View Forms so the end-user may think their record was created immediately.

I appreciate any and all help with this.

Thank you!

    Vikranth,

I really appreciate your response on this as well.

I think refreshing either the quick view form or the sub-grid on the quick view form would be acceptable.

Unfortunately, I run into the issue, since I am launching another entity from a ribbon bar button, how does the case or incident form know if / when I successfully save a record of that newly launched entity?

In Dynamics 365, with Turbo Forms, I haven't successfully found a way to manipulate a parent form from a child form because methods such as window.opener.Xrm.... or parent.window.opener...etc haven't been working. (Unless I simply mixed up my execution on trying them).

I am also not sure if there is a call back function or way for me to notify the case / incident form when the child form was saved so it could perform a refresh on the quick view form.

Thank you again for the help!

    Hi,

Instead of trying to refresh sub-grid on the quick view form, try to refresh quick view form if that is an acceptable solution for you.

    Xrm.Page.ui.quickForms.get("<QuickViewControlName>").refresh()

    Scott,

I really appreciate you taking the time to get back to me on this.

Unfortunately, I agree, I thought adding ribbon workbench buttons were the best alternative that I could think of.

The only issue is, I have no way to know from the incident entity if the end-user actually followed through with the custom entities launched from those buttons and for a way to refresh the sub-grid within the quick view form depending on that...

I'll keep looking into those options.

    Thanks again.

    Hi,

Quick view forms are documented as being read only and so + buttons are not visible by design. It sounds like you have a good work around - perhaps you could write a blog post about it!

    Thanks

    Scott
