Management Reporter export to Excel issues

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by

When trying to export a report to Excel from management report we receive the following message:

"Excel found unreadable content in YYY.xlsx. Do you want to recover the contents of this workbook? "

Clicking Yes on the mesage does allow the report to export to Excel but there are various formatting errors in the workbook including the Header.  We are also seeing the formatting errors on exported reports without receiving the error message.  One common issue is with underlines missing on certain columns but not across the entire row.

Has anyone encountered this error before?  Is it strictly related to formatting (fonts etc.) on the MR report?  Thank you in advance for any information!

Susan

We had a similar problem.  For us it was a Font color and style issue - there are font/style selections in MR that can't/won't transalate to Excel.  The strange font/style stuff come over from FRX.  Copy the Row Spec. and the highlight every cell and set the font and style to something plain/common and run the report and see if the errors go away.

    Issue:

We are having formatting issues as well.  The report view is fine, but when exported to Excel, the top margin is too narrow to allow adequate room for the header information.  Our consultant suggested inserting @Blank in the last two rows of the header, but this didn't help.  We have three lines of text in the center top margin and the last line runs over the first line of data in the spreadsheet.

    Work Around:

The quick work-around is to just grab the margin handle and drag it to resize to the proper width - which applies to the entire document.

Being both Microsoft products, I would expect the formatting to translate better than this. :-/

This is for Jody Wood.  I was having the same problem with the header and data overlapping.  In the Report Definition go to the Settings tab and then select the Other button.  Make your Top Margin larger, and this will put the data farther down on the sheet.  You can save this setting, so you won't have to drag the margin down every time you run the report.

I haven't found a way yet to get the header farther down on the page.  I'm hoping someone else will have an answer to that problem!

Hello all, I arrived to this question because a customer of mine was experiencing the same Issue.

In my case a few columns that were calculations, had been formatted, when reviewing the result, the columns were returning a percentage but the wrong format in the columns was making the Excel to crash on the cell value because of an incorrect formatting.

The short version is: go to the column layout specifically on the columns where the values are being converted to 0.00000000000000000000000% and click on the column format window cell, choose the correct format and apply to the column, for me I changed it from ###0.00;(###0.00) to ###0.00%;(###0.00%) on all the affected columns and problem disappeared.
