econnect alternatives?

First, some background:

We create custom software applications that sometimes need to post to the general ledger in Great Plains. Previously, we used econnect 8 to do this (after much trial and error, it did work). The client was using GP 8 at the time. Then they upgrade to GP 10 and our tool still seemed able to post transactions to the GL in GP using econnect 8 against GP 10.

Flash forward a year and we have been contracted to add posting abilities to a billing system we designed for them. Unfortunately, the econnect appears to have been wiped off their server and their client laptops (they apparently noticed the issue after their IT department issued them new machines without econnect installed and just didn't bother to let us know). I reinstalled using the same process before, but they've made so many internal changes to security and their network that it isn't working.

Here are my questions:

1) Is there an alternative solution for posting transactions to the GL in GP 10 that folks prefer over econnect (if it's even possible to post to GP using anything other than econnect)?

2) Would econnect 10 work on a GP 10 install resting on a MSSQL 2000 database? The client doesn't want to upgrade to 2005 or 2008, so we're stuck working with 2000 at this time.

I certainly appreciate any help that folks could provide on this issue.

eConnect doesn't support auto posting. There are third party products that achieve this. Envisage software has a product. These do not talk to eConnect in any way - they just automate the posting process of any batches (whether or not they originated from an eConnect integration). Automation is on a fixed interval basis - say every half hour the process runs and attempts to post any outstanding batches. This means that any incomplete transactions get left behind in the batch. The process will keep trying to post th batch untill all remaining records post.

I'm not actually trying to auto post. We just have some debits/credits that need to be manually posted to GP via our application. Our other software (which worked with econnect...although it would sometimes time out during a post) simply posted the debit/credits from an allowance system to the General Ledger whenever the user would select the Post Transaction option. eConnect was used to make these manual postings.

Two other options -

1. SmartConnect (user-friendly mapping interface to eConnect) - I don't know if there would be any issues with it on SQL2000 although I don't know why there would be.

2. Integration Manager - GP's integration tool.

Thanks folks. I put calls into the suggested software solution makers and also received a copy of eConnect 10 from the client. I'll try installing it on a vmware image of their server in our test environment and see if that works.
