Does Great Plains accept UNSPSC codes as an identifier?

What do you mean as an identifier? We had one client where we used Extender and added this field as an extender field. You could also user one of the six item category fields. We then created an export routuine to send the data along based on their export definition.
I am working with a customer that would like to separate two types of products for reconciliation in their GP system. Our SKU numbers are all 6 digits, so we thought that if they were able to assign a UNSPSC code to the product file we identify as 'category B', that would distinguish them from 'category A' items.
Would that work within Great Plains? Or would they need to purchase an additional component?
Can you use the Item Class for that? One called UNSPSC and the other called DEFAULT(or whatever you would like to use). This way when you run reports you specify the item class file to keep them both separate. I see no reason to purchase any additional product. If you cannot use Class then use of the 6 inventory categories.
