Migrate BC Cloud Database to BC onPrem (BC26)

Hello out there,

according to available information on the learn.microsoft.com website, there is no supported way "downgrading" a Business Central Cloud instance to an onPrem installation of BC of the same version. Still it would be very helpful for migration processes, to be able to fetch the database (BACPAC) from the existing cloud instance and be able to load it into an onPrem environment (and use the Web-Client for tests locally) for our use cases.

The intended use is to get the cloud instance including the data to run on a local onPremise BC instance using the Web-Client, so the data can be tested locally before uploading it back to the cloud instance.

Is there anyone who tried to achieve this and had at least partial success doing so? I would appreciate any hints, if this can be done - even if unsupported.
I have the same question (0)

    Hello Mohana,

thanks for this useful information. We already use this exact workflow, to get the database backup from the cloud instance. The problem i am facing, is attaching the downloaded database from the cloud to an onPremise environment, so users can actually check the data from the onPrem Webclient. We litterally look for a way to re-create a running BC onPrem instance using the cloud data (plus needed extensions we would have to add).

This is not an officially supported way of doing it, but i somehow hope, somebody was able to achieve that anyways and has tipps. :)

    Hello,

You can export a Business Central SaaS database (BACPAC) from the Admin Center and import it into SQL Server for data review.
However, Microsoft doesn’t support using that BACPAC to create a working on-premises BC environment.
The export only contains tenant data, not full application metadata.
You can inspect or test the data locally but not run it in the BC web client.
For migration, use Microsoft’s supported data migration tools instead.

    Regards,
    Oussama
