M-BALANCE Report

ReportReport

Business Central's Balance Sheet API seems relies on M-BALANCE report. However, this seems to be optional as I have it on my CRONUS test account but using real customer account this seems to be not existing. Invoking the BS API returns an error

{"error":{"code":"Internal_RecordNotFound","message":"The Financial Report does not exist. Identification fields and values: Name='M-BALANCE' CorrelationId: 423a81a4-895c-483b-bf28-68382c360ee9."} .

I assume this a default/system generated report since the API relies on it or is it created manually and optional? also, is there any API to retrieve the Balance Sheet and Income Statement without replying to this report.

Hi, Below is the standard code for this API, you can research its standard processing.

    Hi,

The error you're encountering suggests that the M-BALANCE report, which the Balance Sheet API depends on, is not found in your environment. Based on the screenshot, M-BALANCE appears to be a manually created financial report rather than a system-generated one. Business Central does not include this report by default—it must be set up by a user or consultant.

    To resolve this:

    1. Verify the existence of the M-BALANCE report in your Financial Reports list. If it's missing, you’ll need to recreate it manually or import it from another environment where it exists.

    2. Ensure the report name matches exactly what the API expects, including case sensitivity.

    3. If you're looking for an alternative way to retrieve Balance Sheet and Income Statement data via API without relying on custom reports, you might consider:

      • Using the Account Schedules API if available.

      • Accessing GL entries and aggregating data programmatically.

      • Exploring Power BI integration for more flexible reporting.

    4.

    Thanks and best regards,

    Daniele

    • The Balance Sheet API looks up a Financial Report named M-BALANCE. It exists in CRONUS demo data but often does not exist in customer tenants.

    • Fix: go to Finance → Financial Reports, create a new report Name = M-BALANCE, assign your Row Definition and Column Definition (or Copy from another company/tenant or import via configuration package), and ensure it isn’t blocked.

    • Alternatively, call the financialReports API using the name/ID of any existing financial report you maintain (e.g., your own Balance Sheet).

    • There is no API that returns Balance Sheet/Income Statement without a Financial Report definition. If you don’t want to use financial reports, use trial balance / G/L entry APIs and aggregate externally.
