Transaction Screens Hanging

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by 250

We just upgraded from GP 2010 to GP 2013. During the process we moved from a SQL Server 2008 machine to a SQL Server 2012 machine. The upgrade all appears to have gone correctly, but, on all transaction screens (SOP/PO/etc) the screen will hang when filters are used. This is across users, including SA, across databases, including Fabrikam, so I am thinking that it is something in the configuration of the new SQL Server 2012. I tried the support debugging tool and it appears to point to actions on syListObj  as the main issue...

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

-Scot

    Scot,

It would be really strange and interesting if your 2010 upgrade brought forward a problem unique to the release.  There used to be a problem with older versions of 2010 related to the SY07110 table, which would fill up with erroneous data.  Try running the select statement below to see if you have a significant number of records in this table.  If you do, they can safely be deleted with the Delete statement included below.  This may clear up your hanging screen issue.

    select * FROM DYNAMICS.dbo.SY07110 WHERE CmdDictID = 6499

    --DELETE FROM DYNAMICS.dbo.SY07110 WHERE CmdDictID = 6499

    Thank you Redbeard,

your select statement returned only two rows for that cmddictid. There are 800+ overall in there.

I was not really concerned about the data, although I cannot rule it out. I was more concerned that there was an option in the setup of the new SQL Server that may be causing this...

Then this is not the cause of your problem.  There are a myriad of SQL Configuration options, report and query design options and other issues, which can affect SQL performance, which is normally the fundamental problem when hanging occurs.  Here is a link to a post on a problem with the table you mentioned and a setting which can improve performance, but this is unique to SmartLists.

I would strongly suggest you start recording specific information about users, processes and times of day and the like to collect enough data to pin down your specific problem.  Here is a link to a blog post on troubleshooting Dynamics GP.

There is no specific time. It happens consistently. Last night, after confirming there was no one else in the application or on the server, I logged on as SA, directly on the box that has the SQL Server instance. I was able to reproduce the every time in Production, test and Fabrikam.

    Scot,

Here is a link to SQL 2012 performance monitoring tools.

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../ms179428(v=sql.110).aspx

My experience tells me SQL performance issues can deleteriously affect GP performance.   There are numerous things that can be done to rectify the situation, which are completely unique to your environment.  For inistance:

    Disable TCP/IP Chimney

Apply hotfixes (you may be using RTM copy of SQL 2012).

Put more RAM in your machine

    Allocate More Disk Space

    Optimize your RAID array

As you can tell, these may or may not apply to your machine or environment.

Optimizing your SQL instance goes way beyond the scope of a forum like this, or even a Microsoft Technical Support incident.

Have you removed 3rd party products and made sure one of them isn't causing the issue.

We have no third-party add-ons to GP if that is what you mean. We had National Accounts from the original vendor prior to this upgrade but that is included in the new 2013 version and uses the same files as the old. And as this is happening on every machine including the server, I cannot think of any other app that would be affecting it.

Probably best to open a support case then Scott. Something is obviously being missed and we will need to actually stream in and look at your environment.
