Hello, I'm asking about how can I do an estimation for any Job in Business Central.
Before I make a posting for the project, the estimation of the project must be sent to the client and the client approve.
So how can I execute project estimation?

The second question How can I Execute the retention in the job module as a workaround because BC vanilla does not include both of those features I shared an example that mile stones for project and each milestone has a payment, percentage of this payment is withheld till the project finishes and all milestone done, Ho can I handle it in BC?
I have the same question (0)

    Hi
To estimate a BC project you have to consider many variables, scope, resources, cost, times and others.
Here is a methodology for Dynamics implementations. Microsoft Dynamics Sure Step Methodology: A Complete Guide
Additionally, I found this page that can surely help you get some idea of the scope. Price Calculator: D365 Business Central Implementation - Encore Business Solutions
As for retention policies, you could add specific tables so you can configure them. Dynamics 365 Business Central: creating retention policies from AL – Stefano Demiliani

Retention here for the payment of the project as milestones for example:
If I have a project with ten phases every phase the client must pay $1000 but 20% of this amount withhold till the project finishes. do you have an idea about that?

Estimation of a Job is done through "Budget" type Job Planning Lines.  You define the Tasks (activities) and beneath each Task you define the potential costs (Job Planning Lines).  Each Job Planning Line represents specific Items, Labor, Sub-Contractors, Freight, etc. contained within a specific activity (Task).  It is recommended to budget in a similar manner to how you will capture those costs.  If all your Labor goes to a single Task, don't break your estimate Labor into multiple Tasks.  By estimating in the way you'll capture costs you'll be able to do better analysis on how the Job is performing.

Base Business Central does not handle true retainage (Invoice is $1000, and 20% is retained until completion, so only $800 is due now).  As you stated originally, you can setup multiple "Billable" Type Job Planning Lines, one line for the initial amount and a second line for the retainage amount.

There are Job specific Extensions available on AppSource which do handle retainage.  You key in the retainage percent (by Customer or by Job) and the system will do the calculation and hold back the retainage billing for a future date.  Do a search for Job and you'll find several options.

Hopefully this helps get you started with Jobs in Business Central.
