Workflow to Roles

Can workflow be based on steps? I have suggestion/idea box where they get logged straigtht into CRM by whoever has them. Based on entry (record created) i can workflow to the first manager but he has to look at the suggestion and and figure out whether its based on sales , store presentation or delivery, thus his next workflow step is a choice between the three.  Since I know it has to go to one of these steps  can i show him a list of the three steps and the people in the roles for those three steps and have him pick one to workflow to (Assign)? I know the steps it has to proceed from (Suggestion->Manager->(Choice of A.Sales,B.Store,C.Delivery)...) Can i bring up a workflow assignment box that only has the people from these roles of these steps?

Here's a way you may be able to handle this:

First, use one workflow rule to assign the suggestion to the manager for review.

Add a picklist to the form with options for sales, store presentation and delivery. When the manager reviews the suggestion, he can set the picklist to the appropriate value and save (and close) the suggestion.

Next, have a second workflow rule that is triggered when that picklist value is changed, and assigns it to the correct user or queue based on the category the manager set in the picklist.

Nice thinking there Matt - On Save Workflow to Manager and two dropdowns one (type) triggering the dynamic data of the other data to select the other (person). Thanks I'll give it a shot.
