Smartlist Designer security access rights to series

Hi,

I'm confused with security around the SmartList designer.  I need to give access to 2 users to the SmartList designer but each of them need only to have access to certain tables from specific series.  My first user needs access to the Financial and Purchasing series and the other needs Inventory (in the Microsoft Dynamics GP database view drop down list on the left of the designer).  Was someone able to achieve this?

Right now, one of my users has access to Financial tables but not Purchasing tables and I really cannot figure why...

Thank you for your help

The funny thing is that this user has access to both series (financial and purchasing) in GP.

One of my users has access to create PO's (transaction/purchasing/purchase order entry) but cannot view the purchasing tables in the smartlist designer... I get the following message 'User does not have access for the selected series'.

My user has the following Security Role

    - Purchasing Manager

    - SmartList

    What am I missing here?

Thank you in advance for your help...

I've found the issue..  My users needed access to the following security Role:

    - ESS Purchase Requester  (ESS is for Employee Self Serve)

That Security Role has the following Security Tasks

    - ADMIN_PURREQ_021

    - DEFAULTUSER

    - INQ_PURREQ_005

    - TRX_PURREQ_026

How this I miss this?  It was soo obvious... not!!  LOL

Allow me to provide you with a simple approach not only to get this problem resolved, but also any other security problem.

You may either consider the Support Debugging Tool - Security Profiler to get any such issue resolved, this is definitely the ultimate solution. The tool can be downloaded from Winthrop Development Consultants - Downloads for versions prior to GP 2015.

Another option is to consider the Security Resource Description SQL script, through which you just fill in the window display name to get the associated security roles and tasks. Remember that you should initially populate the table SY09400 , follow the following steps to do so:

    1. Click Microsoft Dynamics GP, point to Maintenance, and then click Clear Data to open the Clear Data window.
    2. On the Display menu, click Physical
    3. In the Series list, click System
    4. In the Tables pane, click the Security Resource Descriptions table, and then click Insert
    5. Click OK
    6. Click Yes
    7. In the Report Destination window, select the Screen check box, and then click OK to send the report to the screen.
    8. Close the report

One thing to keep in mind for the SmartList designer, the required security task is ADMIN_SYSTEM_SL06*

Let us know if you have any further concerns,

    Your feedback is highly appreciated,

Thanks for your suggestions, I will try them out..

My employee was already assigned the SmartList security role which had the ADMIN_SYSTEM_SL06* security task...    At first, I did not have this task in my GP but I found in forums that I had to generate/create several roles (via sql scripts) since my GP2013 was an upgrade.

I find it is never obvious with GP

Hi, we are also using GP2013 and I am not seeing that option ADMIN_SYSTEM_SL06*.

We have a scenario where a query is created via the Smartlist Designer with the SA profile and it won't run on my profile which has poweruser access.
