Contracts and Accounts

Our organization has pre-paid 2 hour service contracts with our customers (each customer is identified as an “account” entity in CRM).  We were hoping to use the “contracts” to allow us to automatically allocate support time from cases against the contract for that customer, but from what I can tell the automatic allocation does not seem to work with “contracts” associated to “accounts” and only works with “contracts” associated to “contacts”.  Most of our customers have multiple “contacts” that call us making if difficult to track time using “contacts”.

This seems like it should be a common issue with the limitation of “contracts” as I assume most CRM users have “contracts” with “accounts” rather than individuals (contacts).  Any good workaround ideas?

(currently planing deployment for move from premise based 4.0 to CRM Online)

    Hi Cticomm,

Contracts, in Dynamics CRM, uses the field Customer to link an Account or a Contact.

After, in the case, it's possible also to link other Customer (Account or Contact).

Then, I consider possible, natively, to use Account with Contracts.

I suggest you pay attention in the following articles:

    My apologies for some misunderstanding.

    Thank you Gustavo,

i have no issues linking contracts to accounts or contacts, very simple.  I am trying to link support "cases" to "contract lines" to allow for service time "billable hours" to be allocated against the "allotments remaining" in the "contract line".  This seems to only work for new "cases" opened directly from the specifc "contract line".  "cases" opened and resovled outside of the "contract line" do not count aginst the "allotments remaining" altough they are assoicated with the "contract line" and show up in the assoicated view.

When you create a new case, you need to associate it the case's Customer with the appropriate account, and you need to associate the case with the accounts appropripriate contract and contract line. When the case is resolved, the billable time will be decremented from the contract line's alloted time.
