Problem when trying to update records via Excel Online - alleged duplicate entries

Hi everyone

I've output a list of contacts from CRM Online via a View in order to update their Owner. I change the Owner and then click Save to change (re-import) the data.

The vast majority of records update fine, but I have around 500 records that won't update due to a "Duplicate record" (as per the image below).

However, when I look into this further, the contacts aren't duplicates but instead have the same names as entirely different contacts within CRM.

Do you know how I can get around this issue?

Many thanks
Jon

Hello. Many thanks for your reply. Yes, you're right. The dupe detection rule can't be turned off using Excel Online. However, I did what you recommended with Excel Desktop (easier than turning off the dupe rule I think) and everything worked.

    Much appreciated.

Do yo have duplicate detection turned on that particular entity, and a duplicate detection rule that detects duplicates based on Name etc.  If so when you do the data import there is a checkbox on the last page of the data import wizard to turn off duplicate detection (if it is turned on it will fail import based on the rules being triggered).

Edit: just noticed you said Excel Online, if its the duplicate detection rule causing the problem you may need to export to Excel Desktop as I don't think you get the option to ignore them when going back from Excel Online (or temporarily unpublish the rule).
