CRM Online Sync with Exchange On Premise

Hi,

This might sound a ridiculous question but i am really having a tough time understanding which option to choose and how to do it. Note that i am not a Technical person and just trying my best to setup something of my own and use a CRM which is easy.

My understanding is that Server Side Sync will not work because Exchange is on premise, am i correct?

I installed CRM for Outlook plugin and was able to use it but then i did something today and i can't get my head around it. Moreover the Synchronize button has also disappeared from the ribbon.

Do i need to install an email router on a desktop to sync Exchange on premise and CRM online? I did the installation but i need a very simple to do step by step guide to follow which i am unable to find one if this is the right option.

My last question is, when i installed CRM fro Outlook i could see some sample data popping up with appointments in Outlook but when i went in to Calendar i did not see anything and everything was listed under the Tasks. Is this normal because i thought that its not properly synchronized so i did some changes today and now nothing seems to be there.

Would appreciate if someone can give a step by step guide - i am willing to share screenshots if needed.

Thanks

RE: CRM Online Sync with Exchange On Premise

    Hi PingPong,

Yes, hybrid scenarios between CRM and Exchange are not supported.

    As per the documentation:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn531050.aspx see Unsupported email service configurations

You can get more information here: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh699800.aspx

In the event that you are still left wondering what to do, open an advisory case with Microsoft Dynamics CRM Support.

    Best regards,

    Anarud

    Hi PingPong,

You should be able to use Outlook sync from your Outlook. If the buttons gone, maybe something went wrong in the installation and you might want to consider installing the add-in again.

Also, please note that starting the coming fall release, CRM is going to support CRM online with Exchange Server.  You can find the full setup guide here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=49534

RE: CRM Online Sync with Exchange On Premise

    Hi Elad,

Thank you for sharing the good news and can you please let me know when does Microsoft plan to launch 2016?

I reinstalled again and the Sync button was not there so i thought that i should try to do some troubleshooting on my own.

I noticed that when i changed the Server Side Sync option in Dynamics to Microsoft Dynamics for CRM Outlook - the Sync button came back and of course i had to close and reopen Outlook to see if it was there or not.

I am still a newbie and not sure if all what i did was right or wrong but i got the Sync button back in the ribbon. So i added one dummy contact in CRM and tried sending a few emails, waiting for around 30 minutes for it to Sync on its own but no success :(

When i clicked on Sync button, below is the error message which it returned

    Mailbox_2D00_Config.jpg

So i will share my settings for all the possible screens for you guys to suggest if i have done something wrong.

    Email Configuration >> System Settings

I did click on Track email but i think its not working because of the Sync issue.  Sorry for the long post and hope one of you guys can help me out here.

    Thanks

    Hi PingPong

I suggest you have a look and the following blog post, explaining how to Test & Enable mailboxes in CRM.

I believe this will solve most (if not all) of the issues you mentioned.

RE: CRM Online Sync with Exchange On Premise

    Hi Elad,

One of the things mentioned in the link you shared with me is that Mailbox settings are not needed if I am using CRM for Outlook.

Everything is working fine now and the main culprit was the three email accounts setup in my Outlook. What I understand is that the main Primary Profile of your Outlook is the one which Syncs with Dynamics CRM and hence I was not able to send receive Emails properly. Moreover the Tasks, Appointments, Contacts etc were also not showing under the email account I had configured earlier but were shown under the primary account profile in Outlook.

So I removed the email accounts from outlook, deleted the profiles and recreated the Profile for the account I wanted to Sync with Dynamics CRM.

It works like a charm and no problem at all :-)

    Thank you so much everyone

RE: CRM Online Sync with Exchange On Premise

    Hi Elad and PingPong,

It seems that on the new CRM 2016 On-Line, support for Exchange On-Premise is now supported as per document "Setup Guide: Server-side synchronization for

CRM Online and Exchange Server" Vsn. 8.0

However, after following the instructions, my test connection is NOT working. The error I receive is "The Exchange Server settings for authentication could have been set to something other than Basic Authentication. Basic Authentication is required for connecting CRM Online with Exchange Server" but Basic Authentication IS ENABLED on my Exchange Server.

I have done tests using Microsoft's Remote Connectivity Analyzer (testconnectivity.microsoft.com) and they DO WORK, I just can't figure out what else is needed in order to connect CRM 2016 and my Exchange On-Premise.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Regards,

       Enrique

RE: CRM Online Sync with Exchange On Premise

    Hi Enrique,

Did you get to the bottom of this error?

Having the same issue with an upgraded 2015 CRM to 2016 update 1 CRM online.

we have completed all the prerequisites detailed in the document using Exchange 2010 SP3.

I have also used the Microsoft's Remote Connectivity Analyzer and all appears correct and id successful, then when I test connection in CRM it validates the 'Checking HTTPS Connection but fails on Connecting to Exchange with EWS and Mailbox with the Error:

The Exchange Server settings for authentication could have been set to something other than Basic Authentication. Basic Authentication is required for connecting CRM Online with Exchange Server.

I have raised a Support Request with Microsoft and I am waiting a response but was hoping you may have resolved this already and could share the advice?

    Thanks in advance,

    Peter
