MR 2012 CU11 very high CPU on data mart refresh

Is there any way to tweak the Management Report data mart refresh so it acts more like a background process. As it is, it's pushing our SQL Server CPU to 100% for hours. This started in CU10, but seems worse yet in CU11 with hotfix 2. I just don't understand the reason for bringing the whole database server to a standstill so no one can work while it rebuilds the data mart.

I'd be surprised if there was a setting to fix this, but doesn't hurt to ask...

    Hi Bret,

I don't think this is exactly what you are looking for but adjusting the refresh cycle might help. dyngpbeat.wordpress.com/.../the-dreadful-1-minute-refresh-cycle-of-mr2012-datamart

I currently use a scheduled task to stop the MR Services during the day and start them again at night to avoid negatively affecting my GP users.

    Regards,

    Kirk

You're right... it's not the refresh that's bothering me. I did notice something interesting last night when I tried to refresh the data mart again. It was when I added the companies that the CPU went crazy, not when I enabled the integration. So when I get a chance I'll spend more time to see if it's a specific company causing it and perhaps submit a support request to figure out why.

    Hi Bret,

Which version of GP are you running ? How many GP companies are integrated into the MR 2012 configuration ? there are several factors that could impact the performance of your SQL server that hosts the MR database, but check the blog link suggested by Kirk, it will give you an idea about the problem.

Microsoft seems to have acknowledged there may be a problem and also it looks like they're going to somehow allow the administrator to configure the refresh cycle timing in the configuration console of MR 2012.

We had this issue and in the end had to revert to use Legacy reporting which resolved our high data use issue. Also make sure that none of the report definitions or other errors contain errors in Management Reporter.

I think DM needs to be on a separate SQL server to the GP database.

    Kind regards, Dan

OK... well the rebuild totally failed last night, so I did the investigating now. It turns out the high CPU is in the validation phase of adding a company with analytical accounting. Having turned off the AA reporting, the companies added and CPU returned to normal in a few seconds. Now the accounting manager will have to decide whether it's worth spending many hours with support to try to fix AA again considering it took many hours over a few months to work through it last time. We may just have to abandon it.

Now there are other problems, which I may post in another thread since they're off-topic here.

GP 2013R2. There are 14 companies, and it's not the refresh cycle that's killing us, but the AA validation.

And because it's audit season and accounting can't be without working reporting tools, I've reverted to CU10. This high CPU issue exists in CU10 as well, but at least it completes after a couple hours and allows the integration to finalize. CU10's high CPU issue is also part of enabling AA reporting on a company, something we may be able to do without, at least for now.
