CRM2016: Custom Activity Date Issues

We've created a custom activity which we are hiding from the normal activities menus via the display check box on creation.

The customer activity is being used to provide single-click navigation thanks to the regarding feature. When we create these activity records to link entities together we need to hold the start date and end date. So I decided to use the ScheduledStart and ScheduledEnd which are standard with activities.

However, I've noticed some strange behaviour with the date fields which means I may have to create my own start and end dates. Which would be ashame given there are so many start and end dates out the box.

This is the behaviour I've noticed:

1. Scheduled Start has a date but Schedule End does not. On Save Schedule End becomes the start date!

2. If you delete schedule end date it also delete scheduled start date.

Would switching to actual start and end be any better or do I need my own date fields and ignore these?

Cheers

Steve

    Hi Steve

Are there any workflow on this new entity?

    Hi Mark

No workflow. Because we have several products (that are entities) and due to the new UI we did not have a way of listing all the products in a simple list that would allow the records to be a single-click away.

That's when we decided to use a custom activity to act as a central register. As the regarding attribute can link to anything it can act as an interactive menu. We use a plugin on the other entities create event to construct the custom activity. It was then we noticed the start date and end date were taken on a life of their own.

Since posing the question, I've decided to add my own start and end dates and have hidden the built-in ones to prevent confusion in advance find.

    Thanks for responding.
