Sales order processing - partial/short-pick

Posted on by 51
I'm currently testing through some configuration around sales orders. The issue I'm getting is the following:

  • I have a sales order with two lines, two products with 1qty each
  • I pick the first item via the WMS app which is all OK
  • I then pick the second item and then use work exceptions to create a short-pick
  • The WMS app tells me to put the 1 item picked to the final put location
My question here really is, what's the next logical step to process the second line & to complete the sales order?

Thanks!

SR

The short pick / work exception is telling the system that the inventory is not there. When you perform that action, it leaves the shorted line in order for it to be rereleased when inventory is again reserved.
If you short picked and there was other inventory available, you can go to another location perhaps to pick that the line from additional inventory (this option is configured and must be enabled at the Warehouse worker level), then finish the put for both lines.

If you short pick the 2nd line, and there is no other inventory to fulfill the demand, it will tell you to put the inventory and complete the pick. Then you still need to re-release the additional quantity to pick it or cancel the open delivery remainder if it is no longer required.

    Hi SR,

The stock in the scrap warehouse usually is written off at some point, like once per month or quarter.
Only if you find the stock back, which sometimes happens you can transfer the stock back from scrap whs to your standard whs. But needs effort from the users, so usually a count is done to add stock in this situation.

When the stock comes in for the short-pick line it is handled as every other on order line. We have the setting on the warehouse Reserve when orders are released by batch job, and we have the automatic release to whs batch job running. So, there is no manual action needed.

    Best regards, Tamira

    Hi Tamira,

Thanks for reaching out! Will be testing this through later on today.

Once the stock comes in for the short-pick line, do you then manually reserve the stock to pick from the scrap warehouse?

    Thanks,

    SR

    Hi SR,

That depends a bit, is there stock somewhere else in the warehouse? Because then you could have used the Override Location button during picking in the WMA.
But if there really is no stock in the warehouse and you need to actually correct stock then we usually do these steps:
    1. Change inventory status, so the sales order reservation is removed (check if you have setup the Warehouse setting Remove reservations and markings as such that it will remove reservations).
    2. Move it to a different warehouse (we have setup a Scrap warehouse) or correct stock via counting journal.

The sales order line is now put to On order. When new stock arrives you can make the reservation and ship it.

    Best regards, Tamira
