Biometric scanner as input device to PFE

Hi,
Our organization has a requirement to use a biometric system (either via fingerprint og face scanner) for ClockIn and ClockOut in the shop floor.
The PFE is already setup for simple ClockIn and ClockOut using employee BadgeID. Typing, scanning via barcode, and/or physical card for entering the BadgeID is not allowed.
Does anybody have had the same requirement and have a simple solution to use a biometric system to act as a keyboard for entering the employees BadgeID?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, this requirement is possible, but it is typically handled through a third-party biometric solution rather than standard D365FO functionality.

In the standard system, the Production Floor Execution (PFE) terminal for Clock In / Clock Out is designed to accept the Badge ID as the input. Since typing, barcode scanning, or physical cards are not allowed in your scenario, the most practical approach would be to use a biometric device (fingerprint or facial recognition) that can authenticate the employee and then pass the corresponding Badge ID to the PFE terminal as keyboard input.

    Recommended approach:
    • Use a biometric device or middleware solution that supports:
    • Fingerprint or facial authentication
    • Mapping the authenticated employee to a Badge ID
    • Sending the Badge ID to the workstation as keyboard emulation / HID input
    • Once the Badge ID is passed automatically, the standard PFE Clock In / Clock Out process should continue to work without additional user interaction.
