How come I cannot use Shortcut Dimension Code 1? Only 3-8 are available, but I need to use 1.

    Reserved for the global dimensions. There is an action in the general ledger setup for taking care of that.

    Basic reason why you have "Shortcut" fields. BC has something called captionclass. If I set that on a field I can make it pull from another place in the database a caption value. In the case of dimensions I get ok individual columns on journals and documents. This feature is a nice configuration for the database users.

    Shortcut Dimension 1 & 2 is same Global Dimension 1 & 2 which is not possible to edit same as shortcut Dim 3-8. Because Value of Shortcut Dimension 1 and 2 is saved on all standard master and ledger tables in fields "Global Dimension 1 Code" and Global Dimension 2 Code.

    So, Shortcut Dimension 1 & 2 is updated using action "Change Global Dimensions" on General Ledger Setup which will execute batch to update "Global Dimension 1 Code" and "Global Dimension 2 Code" on master and ledger tables using default dimension and dimension set ID associated with record.

    Global Dimension 1 & 2 are referred to as Shortcut Dimension 1 & 2 or vice versa.
