Is it possible to filter the Contact Quick Find view based on Contact Type

Hi there,

I have created an Option Set called ContactType, and added a contact type field to my contact entity.

ContactType contains - sales-person, buyer, seller.

On another entity, I have three contact fields, one for sales person, one for buyer and one for seller.

I have created views for Active Sales People, Active Sellers and  Active Buyers, and when I added these fields to my form, I restricted the views accordingly for searching.

However it all appears to come undone because the Quick search always searches across all contacts.

So when I press enter in these fields I can find any of my contacts no matter what their type.

Is there a way around this?  When I click the find more records it comes up with the advanced search with only the Active Agents view which is good.  But not much help to me if the Quick search will return any contacts.

Thanks in advance

I should add, that if I just put a textbox on my form, this filter works ok.  But since the relationship is 1:N I have added a grid, and this is where it is not filtering.

    Hi,

Sorry, but I am not able to fully understand your question here. You want to filter the quick search of contact entity OR filter the subgrid view of contact on a separate entity? However, below are the options to do both:

    1. To filter the quick search view you can go to Customization->Contact->System Views. Then find the view having type quick find view and you can edit the filter criteria there.

    2. To filter a subgrid view of contact, you can create a new view with desired filter and use it on the form where you are putting the subgrid.

Please let us know if your requirement is fulfilled by above suggestions. Else, can you give us some more information?

    Hi Vikas,

I don't want to filter the quick search view for all contacts though.  Only for some contacts with certain types.  The problem seems to be when I have a 1:N relationship to my contacts.

When I am using a grid I set the default view to my Active Sellers, however when I search for an active seller, the quick search on the grid returns all my contacts unfiltered.

    Hi,

That's because the quick search(using the + icon) on the grid uses the lookup view to show the results (if you select lookup more records, you will be able to see that). The view on your grid will show the filtered contacts that are already associated with the current record. But when you search to add new contacts, it will use the lookup view.
