What's new in creating a trial for Customer Engagement?

Posted on by 115 Most Valuable Professional

With the transition to unified interface, there were few changes that you will notice when you are trying to setup a trial instance for Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement.

If you are trying to create a trial for a Dynamics 365 CE/CRM specific application or module like sales only or customer service only. You might noticed after the complete setup it will show all Dynamics 365 CE/CRM applications.

How are you going to present it to your client? What's the best option to showcase a specific application on the trial instance?

We submitted a support ticket when we noticed this slight changes and hoping we can have an easy steps soon.

Sharing the information from Microsoft's Development team

  1. When a trial Dynamics 365 instance is provisioned, it has every app installed, this is a by-design behavior for demo purpose.
  2. Before the introduction of UCI, apps are shown/hidden based on the selection in the setup page.
  3. However, since the UCI framework was introduced, now every apps are showing based on the security roles that is assigned to the user accessing the instance.

As the user who setup the Trial instance is automatically assigned the System Administrator role, hence they are able to see all the apps.

The only mitigation at the moment is manage access to apps by using security roles for demo/presentation purpose.

The development team also confirmed that the selection of Applications at https://trials.dynamics.com/ is causing confusion and they are looking into making changes for the Trial Signup process. However, as this requires a lot of changes for ease of uses,They don't have any ETA of when will those changes be implemented.

But don't worry Ill give you constant about this, let us hope this will be soon

Happy Dynamics-ing!

    Hi Drizzle,

Based on the fact that the mentioned apps/solutions are pre-installed, a good option is to use a specific "demo user" where permissions are configured in order to have access to only the showcasing app.

For example: On showcasing Field Service: Creating a user with permissions only to access Field Service App & functionality would reduce everything in that demonstration down to the absolutely required.

In my opinion, having a 2nd user configured for accessing more/all apps would showcase additional capabilities of the D365 CE system which can be very useful on showcasing additional strengths of the platform.
