Deleted Record - which user deleted it?

Is there a way to determine which User deleted a particular Record?  I have noticed that a Contact Account and Opportunity has been deleted, a very important one!  I suspect a sales person did this.  I'd like to determine which employee 'User' deleted it.  I will modify my user privellages to prevent this in the future.  Thanks.

    Hi Mark,

Unfortunately you can't. In the future, you can create a workflow or install the audit plugin. See  http://crmaudit.codeplex.com/

You may also consider Recycle Bin for CRM4 product that would add Recycle Bin to your CRM, much like Recycle Bin for Windows or Sharepoint, so users can recover their deleted items without admin help.

    Hi Boudewijn,

It mean's untill we have not setup audit workflow, we cannot find out who has deleted the records? (account, contact, opportunities and etc)

    Regards

Hi Salman, that's correct. Auditing has to be enabled at the orgnaisation level (in system settings) then for the Entity in question (within a solution/default solution), and finally it can be activated for individual fields themselves.

    Hi Mark,

You can see who deleted records by looking at the Audit Summary View in CRM and filtering to the Delete event (screenshot below). It's not guaranteed to be in there but it's your best bet.

If your records are in the audit you can restore them with a number of tools - I prefer CrmSnapshot.com (partly because I wrote it). You can do a search for changes in the audit logs and restore as many records as you want.

If this helps I'd really appreciate if you would mark this as a Verified answer.

    Thanks,

      Aiden

EDIT: I didn't realize this was such an old post being resurrected. CRM has good auditing in 2011+ but prior to that you had to use a custom tool.

Thanks JD for the reply. I want to know what are the implications if we turned on the Auditing in CRM 2013. The reason i am asking this question is that "why it was not enabled earlier by other support team?"

Will enabling the auditing impact user experience? slowness or anything? does it involve any cost?

RE: Deleted Record - which user deleted it?

    Hi Salman,

There is a resource cost because it's doing something that it wasn't before, but it's negligible. You and your users won't notice any change. The only reason it wasn't enabled before is because it's not on by default and nobody thought to turn it on.

    Thanks,

     Aiden

    Hello Mark.

The best place to check would be the Auditing section.

    Settings-->Auditing -->Audit Summary View.

Also depending how large your company is you could go into the User and look there,

or possible look at What's New...
