Issue Connecting Finance Power BI App (v26.2) to Production Data in Business Central

Hi everyone,

I'm reaching out to ask for your kind help.
I'm trying to connect production data to the Finance Power BI App for Business Central (version 26.2). I was able to connect successfully to the Sales and Purchasing reports, but the Finance report fails to connect — the connection drops or crashes during the process.
Could anyone help me understand what might be causing this? I'm wondering if it could be related to the volume of data, or if there's an additional configuration step I may be missing.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Best regards,
Julia

    Hello,

The quantity of data connecting could be one variable causing the error, others could Power BI timeout, some API are missing due to permissions or configuration.

I would recommend limiting the data to a shorter period to validate the information. You could also generate standard APIS to validate your operation.

I hope to be able to help.

    Regards,

    Hello,

The issue you're facing with the Finance Power BI app for Business Central likely stems from large data volume or timeouts during data load, especially in version 26.2 where financial data models can be complex and heavy. Unlike Sales and Purchasing, Finance pulls detailed G/L entries, dimensions, and balances, which can cause query performance issues if not filtered properly.

To resolve this, try connecting through Power BI Desktop, apply date or dimension filters to limit initial load, and then publish to the Power BI Service. Also, ensure that your OData feed settings in Business Central allow sufficient timeout and page size for larger datasets.

Hope this answer will help you!

Thank you very much for your comments and suggestions!

I did try connecting the report to a test company with very limited data, and I was able to establish the connection, however, the report doesn’t display completely as it does with the sample CRONUS data.

My main issue is that, when trying to connect it to our real production company, the report fails to load entirely, it doesn’t even get past the connection stage.
Do you think this could be an issue within the standard Microsoft template itself that might need to be fixed or optimized for larger datasets?

    Thanks again for your support!

    Hi Julia,

It’s likely the Finance Power BI App is timing out due to a large data volume — especially common with G/L data. Try these steps:

    1. Filter the dataset in Power BI (e.g., limit to a fiscal year) before loading all data.

    2. Use the latest Business Central OData V4 endpoints, and ensure the API page size limit isn't exceeded.

    3. In Power BI, disable background data previews to reduce memory usage during load.

    4. Also, double-check if any custom G/L fields are causing schema mismatches.
