When performing a search in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013, can we use the * symbol as a wild card. For example if I search for “Coca*” will the result return both “Coca Cola” and “Coca-Cola”?

Yes..if you search coca* then crm will return all records starting with coca.. depending on quick find column..

When you search fro *coca* then crm will give records whoes contains coca..

    Hope this will help..

    Hi Bansri,

Wild card search happens only for the Text Field.

You cannot wild search for example number field. If you have any Account which has Number of Employee field. You cannot search them.

For that you need to have a hidden Text Field which stores the value of number field and then it is displayed as one of the column in Quick Find view to perform your wild card search.

    Thanks

    Hope that helps

    Bansri,

Another limitation is you cannot find the keyword thatn contain the wildcard symbol itself, (* - asteriks)

Another complete explanation you can see this link:

    Thank you.

You can simply search for "Coca" - CRM assumes you want a wildcard at the end, using a "begins with" type of search.

You only need to use a wildcard if you want to search for unknown characters at the beginning or middle. Eg "*Cola" will return "Coca-Cola" and "Rola-Cola". "*ca*la" will return only "Coca-Cola"

Note this is also case-insensitive, by default (I'm fairly sure this depends on SQL collation settings)
