Adding multiple item numbers for an item

Hi.

When adding an item to quote a client I can give the item a number. In our business, the same item can be used in multiple machines and may have several item numbers. Rather than have several separate items I would like help in understanding how I can attribute all these numbers to the same item.

Thank you for any help.

I have the same question (0)

Couple of ways I can think of. On the item card you have an option called "Item References". Here you can add barcodes, number your customer uses for the item, the number you supplier uses for the item and just internal references too. Just leave the "Reference Type" and "Reference Type No." blank to do the internal ones. You can add a description to each of them as well. This data could then be picked up for usage in other areas depending on what you envisage as a process there.

The other suggestion would be the "Item Attributes" feature. This would then make it possible for users to search the item list by that value too. This one is slightly more defined as you may have specific numbers for specific machines so your item attribute could be "Machine A Number" and then the value.

    Mark,

Adding to what Josh replied, not knowing your exact business, if I had an Item that had many variations to sell, I could also use Variant Code. Then I can list all the possible Variants. I will have my inventory by Variant and visible in other areas of BC.

You have now a few ways to solve your question.

    Thanks,

    Steve

    Thanks, Steve.

    I'll give this a try.

We sell spare parts for wind turbines so a product can be sued by several machines and each machine gives that produce their own identifying number plus the manufactures own, so we aim to list all numbers under the one item so a team remember can search any of those numbers and arrive at that item.

Sounds like you need a combo of what we both said minus the thing I mentioned on item attributes.

    Hi Josh. I agree.

I appreciate both your quick replies and will play with these ideas over the weekend.
