Permissions for Office 365 user used with Server Side Synchronization

Hi, I enabled the server side synchronization between CRM OnPremise 2016 and Exchange Online. In order to perform the processes needed for that task we created a user in Office 365 with Global Admin permissions over the subscription. After the Server Side Synchronization is enabled, does the Office 365 user used in the configuration process still needs to keep the Global Admin permissions for the Office 365 organization? IT people is requesting those permissions should be removed because of security policies.

I would appreciate any advise.
