Deploy Embedded PowerBI report from Sandbox to Production environment

Posted on by 95

Hello, experts,

I have created an additional page in the standard embedded PowerBI report in D365FO sandbox environment (Production control > Inquiries and reports > Production performance analysis > Production performance).

Please advise - how is it possible to transfer these changes from Sandbox to Production? I cannot get PBIX file from that embedded PowerBI report of D365FO sandbox.

RE: Deploy Embedded PowerBI report from Sandbox to Production environment

    Hy Jana,

as I know if you deploy embedded PowerBI report this should be part of the code deployment as PBIX are handled as resources and referenced from the D365FO forms which include embedded PowerBI objects. This goes through regular code deploymenet. The first time a User a goes to a D365FO form containing a embedded PowerBI report, the report will be deployed in background. PowerBI.com is NOT used in this case.

If you want to deploy reports to PowerBI service, then you have to import the PBIX to LCS to the PowerBI report section. After that you can deploy the Report inside any D365FO environment (UAT or PROF) to the PowerBI Service of the User account (needs to be created before). The report will always deploy to the User's PowerBI myWorkspace and they will have the same name. So if you deploy a report from UAT the data source will be set to UAT, if you deploy a report from PROD the data source will be set to PROD. I strongly recommend to diffenrentiate the reports by naming convention (UAT_REPORT01, PROD_REPORT01), otherwise you don't see what environment is queried. For this part the User requires a PowerBI Pro License and the report is basically deployed only to the personal PowerBI service account even the User can share the report within the Organization. A report deployed on this way can also be included into D365FO using somes formes which support this kind of PowerBI integration. Looks like embedded, but is different to first option.

    UMESH PANDIT,

thanks for your reply, but after reading the article, I've got additional questions, because the article is describing "Deployment to Sandbox and Production", but I need "Deployment from Sandbox to Production".

    The questions are:

    1) Can I enable both Sandbox Production D365FO in one Power BI account? Is it safe? I worry about the Sandbox data, which can confuse users of Power BI.

    2) If I can't enable both Sandbox & Production D365FO in one Power BI account, then I still have the initial question - how do I get a file from Sandbox to see it in the "Deploy Power BI Files" page of Production?

Deployment of Power BI to Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations is done by Embedded Power BI in Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, for this, you need to Configurations of Power BI in operations:

Navigate to System Administration –> System Parameters –>Go to Help Tab
