View Designer (XrmToolBox plugin): what features does it add to CRM?

Hi,

I'm trying to understand the potential of View Designer compared to the native features of the CRM.

View Designer (XrmToolbox plugin) lets us perform the following:

  •  Edit the layout of a view (by clicking on the Edit XML button);
  •  Edit the FetchXML dynamically (by clicking on the Edit Query button and redirect to FetchXML Builder)

Are they both additional features that are not present on CRM? Or can we access the XML or the FetchXML of the view simply by using CRM configuration?

Apart from these, are there other features, provided by the View Designer, which aren't natively present on CRM?

I have the same question (0)

    The two features you've mentioned above are the main benefits of using the View Designer tool rather than the out-of-box view designer in CRM. You cannot access the FetchXml from within Dynamics, directly. You can only modify the Fetch in Dynamics by changing the filtering/sorting criteria and desired columns from the native designer.

    Hi,

    Here are some unique features provided by the View Designer.

    1. Live Preview – clicking this will fetch the data returned by the view and display it
    2. Select Columns – allows selection of the attributes in the FetchXML query and display the data as columns in your grid
    3. Edit XML – edit the grid associated with the view
    4. Edit Query – Edit the FetchXML associated with the view. This actually opens up a new tab with the “FetchXML Builder”
