Real time validation of email address

Hi there,

Is there a possibility in CRM2015/CRM2016 (or an external tool) to verify email addresses real time when editing a contact or lead form in CRM? I have seen some services that verify lists of email addresses, but I haven't run into a plugin or so that does this real time when creating/updating a contact record.

Here's an example of a service that checks an email address: www.webservicex.com/ValidateEmail.asmx

You can call JavaScript code from a CRM form when a field changes by configuring the field's OnChange event handler. For your requirement, on change of the email field, call the web service and take action on the yes or no value that is returned.

You might want to block the save until the verification is complete. You can do that by using a Boolean flag field to indicate whether the email address was validated.

Hi Tim, thanx for your quick response!

I did a few tests on on webservicex.com. It is not very fast (so I doubt wether we can wait with the save of the record until the verification is done - but we can find our way around that), but more important, I checked my business email account, and I got back 'false'. This may be due to the fact that our company has blocked for email verifications. I am starting to doubt the usefullness of this check at all, as we work in B2B, and I expect that many other businesses have blocked for email verification as well.

    Thanx anyway!

Sorry to hear that that particular service didn't work out. My main point was that these services exist if you need them. Another one is cobiso.com/.../validate-address. My address came back as valid for this one.

Validating data is all about the business benefit and whether it 1) needs to be done at all (it usually does, in some way), 2) needs to be done but can be done asynchronously or in batches or 3) needs to be immediate (e.g., credit cards).

I've worked on projects where it was essential that geocoding was done as quickly as possible while someone was on the phone and others where a nightly process geocoded thousands of records.

On another project, someone asked whether it's possible to pull in a company logo automatically for an account record in CRM. Turns out there's a web service for that as well: https://logo.clearbit.com.  That was a fun one to get working.  :)
