Picking ticket not printing correctly

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by 80

hi,

when printing the picking ticket from an order in GP 2015 the picking ticket is to far to the right and is slightly cutoff. the order itself is printing fine. both are printing to the same printer. the printer prints other applications fine and has done so for at least 3 years.  it is a canon IR-ADV c5035. I've tried a few different drivers(PCL,PS) but it still prints slightly cutoff on the right. do I need to modify the report to fix this?

How does the alignment look when you print to screen?

Depending how far off it is, you may be able to make the adjustments on the Print Dialog box when you print it. you can scoot things around with settings on the print dialog box. I haven't had a lot of success printing it to the window. It'll look great on the window, but not so great from the printer.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

    thanks for the reply's.

I'm not seeing where I can adjust the document before printing it.

    Hi Scott,

Boy you're right. Those boxes are missing from the print dialog, I wonder when and why they removed them. Anyway, you may be down to having to modify the report if you are using the RW report or adjust the margins if you are using the Word Template. How far off is it?

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

it's not off by much. I'd say it's an 1/8" to far to the right. it doesn't look like it's cutting of anything important from what I can tell.  the weird thing is all the other documents associated with orders are printing fine(order, packing slip etc.) and the picking tickets will print fine to at least one other printer we have.

we are using the "standard" report type, no template. I'm not that familiar with GP yet so I don't know what RW is(report writer maybe?) but if I print to screen and then choose modify it looks like GP closes and another program opens and It looks like I can change the picking ticket report there, but it's not obvious to me how I would go about moving it to the left slightly. am I looking in the right place?

    Scott,
I apologize for the abbreviation. RW does mean Report Writer and that's where you would modify the standard report. Before you get started on this, backup your REPORTS.DIC file and create a package file for the report if it's already a modified report. Your administrator might have to do this.
Print the report to screen and then Modify Report. Report Writer will open the layout to your specific report. There's a field in both the Report Header (RH) and the Page Header (PH) named Display Reprint. That field is bumped up to the left margin. You have to make both of those field smaller so you can move them to the right. Click on the field and 'handles' will display. It's like any other graphic tool. Go over to the right, hover over the edge until you get a 2-headed arrow (not a 4-headed arrow), and drag it to the left to make the field smaller. Do that to both fields. Click on both fields and move them to the right so they are approximately even with the 'Bill To:' text.
Now, to scoot the whole report to the left, select CtrlA and it will select all of the objects on the report. Use your left arrow key and move everything about an eighth of an inch to the left. This isn't really a WYSIWYG display, so you may need to move it all the way to the left. It won't let you go beyond the left border.

Close and save the report. Return to GP using File > Microsoft Dynamics GP. Ask your administrator to change security to make sure you are pointing to the modified report. Print the report and see if it prints where you want.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

great, thanks for the detailed answer! I'm just getting back to this today and your instructions worked great for the left side getting cutoff.

I think Leslie covered this but I wanted to add that you want to make changes to the report dictionary when you are the only person in GP. Editing the dictionary while it is in use by other users can potentially corrupt it. I make all of my report changes on an isolated test server and then import them into the live dictionary after hours.

    Regards,

    Kirk

    Leslie,

I was able to use the report writer to update the form I want to print (picking ticket) and I have saved it, but it still keeps printing the old format.  I go into the print option and use print to screen & printer then go into modify.  The report displayed is the one I have corrected, but the one that prints is still the old format.  Am I missing something??  I can send you a screenshot to show you, but essentially I am modifying the columns (shrinking item # & expanding item description) and it displays in the report writer but reverts to the incorrect old columns when printing.

    Thanks in advance!

Have you gone into the Alternate/Modified Forms and Reports window and set the access to be the modified report instead of the original report? Go to Administration | Setup | System | Alternate/Modified Forms and Reports. Pick the modified report to assign security such that the modified report prints instead of the original.
