Dynamics 365 v9 - View issue with Custom Controls

Hi guys

I believe there has been an outage today (possibly longer) for some custom entities on certain servers - users not being able to access them - and I can see that if I use the newer web interface I can access the custom entities but the Unified Interface isn't working (and it's the UII that we've trained user on using).

Having checked the solution file, I can see that suddenly all the Views in the custom entities have the ability to change the Custom Controls (which we had done to enable Editable Grids) but now when we access Custom Controls there are no options available and when I select Add Control, I receive the following:

We can configure only one custom control. Please delete the existing control to add new control

Problem is, there is no Controls available to delete!

This has been working for ages so it's obviously something MS has pushed that's caused this issue.

Anyone got any suggestions what to try (if there is anything we can try)? Users have been without the custom entities all day and it's going to be a major issue shortly.

Thanx

Steven

Does anyone have any idea what may have caused this at all?

I can see that MS pushed out a scheduled maintenance on 11-12 Feb (update 9.0.1.127) and it was this morning we suddenly experience this issue. That seems very coincidental to me. There's another due to be pushed over 15-16 Feb (update 9.0.1.131) but we can't wait that long for the issue to be fixed as the Unified Interface just isn't working anymore (first View of an entity is okay - except custom ones - but any other View just displays nothing). Looks as though there is a data caching issue in some way causing this.

Also seems weird that we cannot see any Custom Controls on the custom entities atm and although we can see them on OOTB entities we cannot see Editable Grids on any of them now.

We are struggling with 9.0.1.127. Random real-time workflows (even newly created) just don't open and we can't continue working on solution for our client. We are unable to find the root issue without access to trace logs or db. Welcome to the cloud...

    Hi SergeyT

Yeah I feel your pain...v9 does feel a little clunky atm for me (especially the Unified Interface) but it's this we're trying to stick with as I can see the benefits of this for our clients.

We've raised a call with MS (last night) and still awaiting some feedback from them on this.

The standard web interface (for us) seems to be working okay but it's the Unified Interface we're having no end of issues with.

I assume (due to location) you're on CRM4 as well?

    Yes, it's CRM4.

1 day after release of 9.0.1.127 we have SQL errors (Collating Sequence) when (e.g.) saving Form config or an Advanced Find. Development team cannot work and we're scrambling around trying to re-build a new dev based on a clean 9.0.1.127 instance.

Unsure whether 9.0.1.127 is the root cause, but seems a coincidence.

    Hi Chris

Yeah agree there...don't think a clean instance is going to make a difference if 9.0.1.127 is the root cause though.

Finally go a call from MS yesterday (48 hours after reporting the issue) but still no further forward. Apparently been escalated to another team for review. For us, the web interface still works but it's the Unified Interface and Outlook App (which uses this) which aren't working.

When I checked the Message Center we can see that there was an update scheduled for last night (moving to 9.0.1.131) but this doesn't appear to have happened which makes me believe they weren't going to compound the issue any further and pulled the update (might be worth checking your system to see if you were updated).

I was hopeful that this update may have cleared the problem up but since it's not been pushed (at least here) it suggests that it wasn't the case.

We also have a number of Advisories about Organization reset issues and Directory Syncs (as well as a whole raft that have been cleared now) so it suggests that something bordering catastrophic has entered the ecosystem on here.

I assume you're on CRM4? Wasn't sure if you were now on CRM11 as you're UK based. Just trying to establish if it's only CRM4 that is affected or if all v9 systems are being affected in some way. Bit strange there's not been more gnashing of teeth over this if it is a bug affecting everyone though.

The guys at MS didn't say it was affecting everyone so perhaps it is just isolated issues...PITA when it's you though. If I hear anything I'll let you know and if you manage to resolve you're issue it'd be great to hear how you did it.

Our issue is in a CRM4 environment - our UAT environment (also in CRM4 on 9.0.1.127) is unaffected, however.

We reset another instance and tried to move the default solution from Dev, but couldn't because Dev had managed components left over from BaseCustomControls previous version (9.0.0.0372) that don't exist in 9.0.1.127.

No official response from MS Support yet.

Interestingly, other instances we're working on in CRM11 (UK) have been upgraded to 9.0.1.131 and test OK at the moment.

Yeah that's curious...hopefully whatever is going on will get sorted shortly. I think I'll look to see if we can get a new Dev Sandbox in place and see if we can do something there. I'll keep you posted if we come across anything this end.

We don't have any v9's on CRM11 ourselves at present (this client was already tied to CRM4 due to an earlier CRM instance being in place which we have no authority over) so we can't see if anything has been upgraded successfully. Might have a play in here as well and see if the solution file works as expected in CRM 11 (suspect it will though).

    Hi Chris

No further forward still. We attempted to perform a clean install into a Sandbox (still on 9.0.1.127) and we also got a similar problem to you about components left over but from msdynce_Service (9.0.3.71) and as this clean install doesn't have these components we cannot install the Solution file to even test it out.

I did pull out our Solution file from the problem server and I noted there was some corruption in the XML construction. simple things like LocalizedNames being missing from some of the Views we had constructed. So we've updated this (in the Solution file) which we tried to import into the Sandbox but still get the errors about the Microsoft Service Solution (msdynce_Service) - docs.microsoft.com/.../msdynce_service - and since we can't do anything with this Solution we're sort of stuck once again still awaiting a call about this.

    Hi, Hope this helps.

In my case I needed to setup a solution from a v9 to another v9.

I had dependencies to a msdynce_Service (9.0.5.11) solution that I had not seen before, and even though it is refereed in the help files I was never able to find a way to actually deploy the solution.

    there is a msdynce_CRMHub solution available (through https://port.crm4.dynamics.com/G/Solutions/ManageSolutions.aspx?OrganizationId=... ) but no msdynce_Service.

In my case i just needed the new v9 fro a demo, so I just used what is refereed here https://community.dynamics.com/crm/f/117/t/209535 to remove all dependencies to msdynce_Service from the solutions xml and it all imported fine.

This is purely speculation but: Microsoft might be trying to package the several modules into distinct solutions but has not surfaced with the actual solutions yet, somehow dependencies to those solutions seem to be reaching live environments though.
