Business rules for Fixed asset determination do not consider currency conversion

 Hello lovely Dynamics colleagues!

I have set up Biz rules for FA detarmination, all is working well but for one thing.
My system currency and my ledger reporting currency is GBP. We purchase items in dollars and euros too.

If my capitalisation threshold is say GBP500.00 but I am purchasing an item for USD500 - the system is actually capitalising that USD500 which is lower than my threshold in GBP.
Setting multiple currency threshold does not work (but also it would be a fixed conversion which is not a LIVE one anyway).
I also read that business rules do not convert but they do use currency exchange already perfomed by the system.

Am I missing a setup or do we need a dev?

please help we need this.

Good morning, afternoon, or evening depending on your location!

It sounds like you've configured Business Rules for Fixed Asset determination correctly, but the issue arises because currency conversion isn't automatically applied during the capitalization threshold evaluation. Since business rules don't perform conversions themselves but rely on pre-converted amounts, here are a few things to check and potential solutions:

    1. Validate Currency Conversion Timing
    • Business rules use amounts already converted, meaning the USD/EUR amounts need to be converted before evaluation against the GBP threshold.
    • Ensure that the exchange rate updates are reflected before the purchase order is processed for asset determination.
    2. Adjust Fixed Asset Threshold Evaluation
    • Instead of evaluating only the transaction currency (USD/EUR), ensure that the ledger currency (GBP) is included in the evaluation logic.
    • Check whether your capitalization threshold is applied to the reporting currency amount, rather than the raw transaction amount.
    3. Enable Exchange Rate Synchronization
    • You might need a customization or a Power Automate trigger to apply exchange rates at the point of asset determination.
    • If using Exchange Rate Providers, confirm that rates are updated before asset classification occurs.
    4. Workaround: Custom Currency-Based Business Rules
    • While standard multiple currency thresholds don’t work dynamically, you could:
      • Use a custom condition that evaluates the reporting currency amount instead.
      • Create a lookup formula that retrieves and applies the latest exchange rate within the business rule.
    5. Consider a Development Solution
    • If real-time currency conversions are required at the time of Fixed Asset determination, then a custom logic or event-based script might be necessary.
    • A developer could create a pre-processing logic that applies the exchange rate dynamically before the rule runs.
    Next Steps
    • Check whether GBP evaluation happens before asset classification.
    • Verify exchange rate synchronization timing.
    • Explore whether a minor customization is required for dynamic currency conversion.

    Hope this helps some!

    Hi Iwona,

It depends on what Dynamics production you are using.
Are you using Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations, Dynamics 365 Business Central etc.
