Opportunity relationship - Contact and Account

When creating an Opportunity from a Contact entity, is there any way to have the Opportunity show up in the related Account as well? The Opportunities show up in the Recent Opportunity field in the Contact, but I would like to also show up in the same field for the associated Account.

Would I be correct to assume that this would have to be done by creating a 1:N relationship mapping? Could I do this with the recent opportunity field?

In any case, and information is appreciated.

    Hi Mike

You are totally correct, You would create a view for the opp and then add a subgrid on the account I would assume the 1:N is already there (I would double check as I am sure it is there OOB)

Unfortunately, this solution did not work. I created the customer view in the subgrid of an Account form, but the Opportunity did not show up when I created one through a Contact related to the Account. Not sure how I would go about mapping that from here. Any suggestions are appreciated.

    Hi

Do you have a custom relationship build for it? If not i would be using the following

Mike, can you confirm that the Account is not shown anywhere on the Opportunity?  Sounds like the Contact is mapping to the Potential Customer field.  If so you may wish to check/amend the relationship mappings from Contact to Opp so that Contact is mapped to parentcontactid and account to parentaccountid and then build you subgrids accordingly.

One of the many places Potential Customer field type can be slightly irritating.

You would need to add subgrid and do the changes in subgrid setting as shown in below snap.

Also you will need to set Account lookup in opportunity record in order to show the record in subgrid.

    Hope this will help you.

    Thanks,

I appreciate the feedback fellas. From what I can see, the subgrid is formatted correctly (see screenshot). However, the relationship mapping suggests that the Potential Customer field may be causing some grief. I have provided screenshots below. Should I be making any adjustments so the Opportunity shows up in an Account when a related Contact created the Opp? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks again.

    Hi Mike

The Potential Customer field can be linked to either an Account or a Contact.  Your subgrid on Account will currently only show Opportunities where the Potential Customer field is set to the related Account.  If it is set to any Contacts at that Account they will not be displayed, as you are experiencing.  It may be worth considering adding parentaccountid and parenctcustomerid to your Opportunity form and use the Opportunities (Account) relationship on subgrid instead.  This would however mean you need to set both the Account and Contact on the Opportunity but your mappings suggest this is happening already.

I figured it out! The default view for the subgrid is My Open Opportunites. I created a new view to see all Opps. However, any time I made any changes to the subgrid, the view would revert back to the default view. This explains why I could see the Ops coming up during my testing.

To summarize, I created a new view to use in a subgrid for both Contact and Account forms to see the related Opps. I had to select a different data source for each form as the Opportunity (Potential Customer) source didn't seem to work.

Once again, I appreciate all of your help!
